Cross

Golondrinas-Cross-BWI can't tell you the number of times I have made images of crosses as I have photographed my home, New Mexico. When I encounter them I am taken by their simple beauty and their deep meaning to the many people who live here. Painter Georgia O'Keeffe was moved by the crosses she encountered as she painted our landscape too. She writes:

“I saw the crosses so often—and often in unexpected places—like a thin dark veil of the Catholic Church spread over the New Mexico landscape.”

She writes further,

"painting the crosses was a way of painting the country."

I like that.
